Form Tutors and Pupil Progress Managers

All pupils have a Form Tutor who serves as their daily point of contact and who also has oversight of their personal welfare and academic progress. A Pupil Progress Manager is responsible for each team of Form Tutors in the college and they are overseen by a Deputy Heads for Key Stage 3 and Key Stages 4&5. Pupils are taught PSHE and Citizenship by their Form Tutors who also oversee their daily attendance at college. If your child is absent from college you will be contacted during the day to ensure that the reason for absence is known and genuine.

Form Tutors also receive a half termly Academic Progress Check. This is a good means of keeping them informed of how their child is performing in all of their subjects. If there is cause for concern parents will be contacted by the Form Tutor or Pupil Progress Manager so that the issues can be discussed and resolved as quickly as possible. Parents can also support the college by regularly checking and signing the Pupil Planner which is a useful means of communication between home and college. This is also where pupils should record any homework that is set and the date that it is due to be handed in. It is college policy to set homework at least once a week in every subject and parents are asked to support the college and their child in ensuring that it is completed. Parents will also receive an annual report on their child's progress and will also have the opportunity to attend a Mentoring Day to have an individual meeting with either the Form Tutor or Pupil Progress Manager.

College Health Advisor and Learning Mentor Support

The college takes its role of offering support for pupils in the widest possible sense very seriously. There is a College Health Advisor based on site who, as well as providing daily first aid support for pupils, is involved in work to encourage pupils to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The Health Advisor works with both pupils and parents and can make referrals to other relevant support agencies as appropriate. The college is also hoping to achieve Healthy School Status, which is measured against national standards, set by the Government.

Additional support for pupils is provided by the Learning Mentor who is also assisted by two Support Mentors. As part of their case load they work closely with Pupil Progress Managers to put into place highly individualized support programmes for pupils. Parents may often also be involved in these to help ensure that their child is as fully supported as possible. Support strategies include counselling on a one to one basis, attending the Pupil Support Base or the college's off site facility at Dudley Fields.

The college is very proud of its reputation for providing a caring community for all of its learners. High quality care is a hugely significant factor in producing similarly high standards of work and behaviour.

 Induction Programme

All pupils joining the college will participate in a carefully planned programme which will support them in their transition to secondary education. Pupils will have the opportunity to visit the college on both a formal and informal basis including attending the annual Open Evening in the Autumn Term as well as the two Induction Days in the Summer Term. These are then followed by the Induction Parents' Evening. The college prides itself on its excellent relationships with its feeder primary schools and makes every possible effort to ensure that pupils and parents develop a strong relationship with the college from the outset of the transition process.
