Introduction The Geography department is part of the Humanities curriculum area. Geography, as a subject, shares certain aims with all subjects, but also has some specific and independent aims. Pupils should, during their studies, obtain knowledge about a range of places, be able to empathise with people, have opportunities to acquire values and obtain a range of mapping skills. Staffing At the moment there are four members of staff teaching Geography at KS3, two members of staff teaching GCSE at KS4 and two staff at KS5. Facilities The Geography department has a good range of facilities with one dedicated classroom with computer facilities and easy access to computer rooms. Courses At KS3 the National Curriculum is followed. At KS4 the department enters pupils for the Welsh Joint GCSE examination. At present the A level syllabus followed is the AQA, but it is likely that A level examinations will be through the WJEC in future. All levels have opportunities to go on field visits to collect information. The major urban topics are assisted by trip to Walsall town centre and the local area. At GCSE level trips are being arranged to Snowdonia to study a range of glacial features. Examination Results KS3 Level | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | Number | 26 | 38 | 70 | 19 | 1 | 0 |
