The History department has two full time members of staff: Miss Cartwright and Mr Mobberley.

The department has access to several of its own computers, including a lap-top, and is also in very close proximity to the cross-curricular computer suite. The department has several CD-ROMs and many videos. We have a good range of textbooks for all abilities. We have just spent hundreds of pounds on new text books for pupils in KS3 and KS4.

KS3 pupils complete a range of topics. In Year Seven pupils complete three units of work: What is History? The Romans and Medieval Realms. Year Eight pupils study the Tudors and Stuarts, Industrialisation and the Black Peoples of the Americas. Pupils in this year have the option of attending a Civil War encampment, which previous pupils have thoroughly enjoyed. Year Nine Units of work include Edwardian Class, which is examined through a study of the Titanic; The First World War and the Second World War.

In KS4 pupils follow the Modern World OCR syllabus. In Year 10 pupils study the effects of the First World War, the build up to the Second World War and Nazi Germany. In Year 11 pupils complete a British depth Study, which covers 1911 until 1918 (including Britain in the First World War). The coursework examines the system of trenches in the First World War, the new developments in warfare and the Battle of the Somme. Most pupils complete the GCSE course while other students follow the Entry Level Certificate (ELC) course, which ensures that all abilities are catered for. The History Department has always enjoyed examination success and achieved outstanding results in 2005. 80% of pupils attained a C or above and 1005 attained an A-G grade. 100% of pupils also passed the ELC course.

The AS and A2 courses have also been successful. Pupils study Britain and Germany. In 2005 there was a 100% pass rate at A2 Level.
