The Music department is situated in its own purpose built block. It consists of a large teaching classroom, two practice rooms and a band rehearsal room. The teaching room is equipped with 14 keyboards and a variety of percussion instruments, which are used extensively in lessons. The rehearsal room has a drum kit, several amplifiers, an electric guitar and sound recording equipment. Three (3) computers are also located in this room and use Cubase and Sibelius software. A further computer room, which is also used for instrumental lessons.

As a subject music is taught to all classes in years 7-9 for one period per week. A reasonable amount of pupils have gone on in recent years to study music at G.C.S.E level and achieve good grades.

Extra-curricular activities are an important part of school life and pupils are encouraged to engage in the full range of extra-curricular activities that are offered. At the moment approximately 30 pupils receive instrumental and singing lessons. In conjunction with Walsall Music Support Service, the school provides lessons in Clarinet, Flute, Recorder, Violin and Keyboard with Drums to be added in the near future. However, spaces for these instruments are limited and the initial audition is required prior to taking up an instrument. Although the lessons are taught during school time pupils are expected to practice at home and to treat the lessons as they would any other.

A show is put on at least once a year for pupils of all ages and abilities in conjunction with the P.E department and pupils perform in school assemblies and presentation evenings. The school choir has performed at Walsall Town Hall with gospel group 'Black Voices'.

Music is offered at G.C.S.E level following the O.C.R syllabus and over the last five years we have worked hard to build classes up and have achieved some pleasing results. Pupils who take instrumental lessons have the opportunity to take the Associated Board examinations, however it must be noted that while the instrumental lessons are free of charge the Parent/Guardian meets the cost
